Off Grid from GBOC Solar

Off Grid Diagram

Off-grid has a solar array but requires an inverter/charger that is sized for the amount of electricity required by the cabin/home. This system is normally used in situations where there is no grid available. It consists mainly of a solar array, inverter/charger, charge controller and battery bank. Many variables affect the size of this system and take time to design. Some questions to ask yourself before beginning the process include: your budget, what appliances you wish to run, how often these appliances run, ie: if you have a washing machine will you do laundry once a day, once a week, etc. How much power will be used after the sun goes down is another important question to answer as well as if you will be using any other alternative sources of powers such as small wind or a fossil fuel generator.

As answers to these questions become apparent the balance of the system will fall into place.
